Chapter 4 - the chat

Time seemed to slow as Melissa walked across the club to the bar. Jared had been served straight away, Melissa realised, rolling her eyes. Handsome guys and young, pretty girls were always served first here. It seemed to be an unwritten rule. She could see several girls making eyes at Jared, the whites of their eyes shining through the darkness of the room, like predators.

“Um… hey there…” Melissa began, standing behind the tall twenty-two year old. “I wasn’t expecting to see you here tonight…” she smiled, hoping that Jared would recognise her out of work and not leave her looking even more stupid than she already felt.

Jared turned around and smiled in delight. “Hey! Melissa!” he grinned. “Finally! Someone I know!” he laughed, immediately adjusting his drink order to get a second beer for his work colleague.

Melissa didn’t really like beer, but she didn’t like to say so. Already she could feel the hate-filled eyes of every other girl in the room, having claimed the attention of the hottest man to walk through those doors in months. The pair found a space to the side of the bar where Jared humorously recounted his tale of how he had come to be out alone this evening, having been let down by everyone else he knew in the city. Melissa was laughing too much; her eyes were a puppy-dog, love-sick hue; she knew they were. But she couldn’t help it.

“I think that girl is checking you out over there.” Melissa pointed across the room to a woman who was blatantly looking at them both. She was dancing her way closer and closer and would be upon them at any moment.

Melissa sighed, worried that her private time with Jared was about to come to an end. The staring girl, dancing her way over, was pretty damn hot, and much closer to Jared’s age than she herself was.

Jared’s eyes flicked across the girl’s body and he sighed, decidedly unimpressed. “Not my type,” he stated simply, looking in the other direction. “I’m more into the curvaceous type of girl,” he laughed, sipping from his beer.

“Oh, you like a little junk in the trunk, huh?” Melissa laughed back.

“More than a little…” Jared replied, his head turned, distracted by a very large obese girl dancing on the dancefloor.

Melissa watched the sexy man's hungry eyes search the heavy girl’s body: her wide hips, chubby butt, bloated stomach and breasts. Then they noticed an equally round and obese man head over, taking the girl’s hand, kissing her sweetly on the lips. That was when Jared lost interest. He sighed in disappointment and turned back to Melissa.

“I’m heading off to another bar if you want to tag along?” he asked, sounding as if he were speaking to one of his usual guy friends.

Melissa looked across at her girls, slyly watching from afar. She had always been determined not to be the type of girl who abandoned everyone for a man. “I can’t…” she sighed regretfully. “I’ve got to stick with my friends.”

With that, Jared smiled, thanked her for the company, and left; clearly on the hunt for a girl with a butt as wide as the one he’d just seen in here.
