chapter 3 - nachos

Josh sat quietly across from his wife, watching curiously as the small Asian woman scooped up yet another handful of loaded nachos before cramming it straight into her mouth. While he had finished his meal well over a half an hour ago, his normally reserved and health-conscious wife had continued to stuff her face with fatty foods, ignoring her utensils and table manners as she filled her body with another serving of greasy, cheesy meat.

“Hey hun, are you feeling ok?” Josh said after finally working up the courage to interrupt his wife’s hangry consumption.

“Yeaw I’m fone bahbe,” she said with a mouth full of greasy Mexican food before swallowing. “Why do you ask?”

Josh followed his wife’s food-coated hand as it scooped into the large pile of melted cheese and ground beef before it disappeared inside of Naomi’s mouth. Shuffling awkwardly in his seat, Josh looked around to find several people staring at his wife’s peculiar behavior and poor manners.

“It’s just, you never eat such greasy food, and you’re eating… a lot. You didn’t drink any of the local water, did you?”

Naomi openly smacked her lips as she chewed, wiping her mouth with her free hand as the other scooped up another handful. “Babe we’ve only been here for a day, even if I did I wouldn’t be sick from it. Your silly trip just took a lot out of me, I’m fine.”

Yet as Josh eyed yet another handful of loaded nachos enter his wife’s mouth, fear was welling up inside that something wasn’t fine. As the last bits of meat disappeared between Naomi’s lips, Josh couldn’t help but shake the feeling that whatever was happening was his fault.

“I’m going to get another plate, did you need anything?”

Shaking his head no, Josh watched his thin wife stand from the table before walking back towards the buffet. Eying her rear end as she moved further away, something almost looked… off.

“Do her shorts seem kind of snug?” He thought to himself. “My eyes have to be going bad. There’s no way she’s gained a noticeable amount of weight from two meals.”

Yet as his slender wife made her way back to the table, Josh watched Naomi’s traditionally lean legs closely and swore he could notice a slight wobbling motion with each step.

“Hey perv, my eyes are up here,” Naomi said with a teasing giggle. “How about you and I go back to the room and have a little alone time. Didn’t you say you were going to make it up to me after wasting our afternoon?”

Josh nodded slightly while his eyes followed Naomi’s hand as it scooped up yet another handful of nachos. The two sat at the table in near silence for another 30 minutes before Naomi’s appetite had finally been satiated, and Josh couldn’t shake this uneasy feeling that something was terribly wrong.
