If you were to see me today, I doubt you would believe that I had ever been anything other than the monstrosity I have become.

I cannot tell you exactly how long it has been since I lost everything I held dear. I cannot even tell you what day of the week it is. Some days I can barely even remember the name my parents had given me at birth, but I do remember a different time; a period of my life where I had everything I could ever want. I had money, beauty, intelligence, and so much power. I was on top of the world before he took it all away.

My life today is so different from what I remember that I sometimes question my own sanity, as if my mind is playing tricks on itself because the pain from all that I have lost is too great to bear. Have I ever been anything other than this creature of gluttony?

At the end of the day, whether my memories are real or not does not truly matter. I live by my new purpose, the one that was given to me by my master, the man that stripped away my humanity and made me into what I am today. This reality is my destiny until my soul leaves this earth, for that I am certain. My will to fight has long passed. Too much damage has been done. I am consigned to this fate.

But for now, at least, I can remember another life. And even though I have long given up on the idea of ever reclaiming what was lost, a shattered fragment of my previous self remains deep within, screaming to escape. She is slipping further away with each passing day and soon enough, when my old memories have faded to nothing, she will simply cease to exist. Heed this story and pray that her fate will not one day become yours.
