Chapter 1

"Oh my God!!! You won!!! We won!!!" exclaimed Mindy Baker to her newlywed husband Billy as she read through the details of their recent windfall. Both were estactic as they could barely afford their current New York appartment on their meager salaries. As they were facing eviction, their sweepstakes win was a god send, and neither thought how strange it was to get back a positive reply so soon. Mindy had only filled out the paperwork in her doctor's office just a few days ago, and now they'd won a multimillion dollar home and a life time supply of food in Fayetteville, California.

"Thank God, Dr. Wu insisted on me applying. I never would have without her insistence," said Mindy to her husband, but neither connected the dots, nor realized the real world implications of moving to Fayetteville, California.

Forward three weeks later...

After a long three day cross country drive, the newlywed couple saw the sign that they had been impatiently waiting for, for the last thirty seven hours:

"Welcome to Fayetteville: The world's most beautiful town."

And from the surrounding scenery of tall and majestic mountains, offset by beautiful large homes and modern architectures, Fayetteville truly seemed to live up to its name.

"Oh my God! It's absolutely like something out of a dream, isn't it?" asked Mindy as their car first entered the town.

"Yeah, we got a free house...," said Billy before he was playfully interupted by his wife saying, "...and don't forget, we also get free food for life in town as well."

"Yeah, I know we got a good deal, but we're still gonna have to get jobs, and good ones at that, if we're gonna pay the taxes on one of these homes," said Billy while driving past some million dollar properties.

That grounded little conversation went to the wayside as their vehicle entered the town's proper. There were all kinds of upscale shops and eateries lining the beautifully designed downtown area. However, it wasn't the shops nor the eateries that truly drew the Baker's attentions. No, those things were impressive, but not nearly so conspicuous as the citizens of Fayettevile itself. This is America, land of the large and big bellied, but noting could prepare the young couple for what they were now taking in.
