Chapter 7 - Hangover

With light streaming through the blinds Avery let out a grown. With her talons she yanked the edge of the blanket over her head as squinted to protect her weary eyes from the mornings sun; and mitigate the pain of her hangover. But as she cloaked her head left to only her thoughts and hangover in the solitary darkness and then a jolt of fear shot down her spine. Avery, in a minor fit of panic, threw the blanks off her as she panted for air. With her eyes slammed shut she took a deep sight as the sun landed on her face. After a few moments Avery glared at her nightstand to see a few things that weren’t there the last time she remembered. She rolled over slightly and then very mechanically propped herself as her eyes came into focus; a glass of water, tablet packet, and a note were the new additions to her nightstand. She reached out with her free hand to snatch the note and read: You were pretty out of it last night. This might be appreciated when you wake up. The date was great last night. – Roger.

Within an instant a tidal wave of memories from the prior night forced their way past the pounding hangover; Avery couldn’t help but blush from embarrassment. She opened the packet letting the tablet fall into the glass to begin fizzing. After a few minutes she took a sip and felt a momentary reprimand of her hangover. Avery then swung her lean legs out from under the covers and delicately stepped around her outfit from the prior night strewn about her room in a haphazard fashion. She stumbled slightly to her dresser and grabbed a pair of shorts and a baggy t-shirt. Tip toeing around last night’s outfit with a slight uneasy wobble Avery made it out of her room; she paused as she quietly closed the door behind her as the aroma of breakfast hit her harder than the hangover. Her mouth, almost on que, started to water as her nose processed the delightful smells trying to decipher what Roger was cooking up.

Avery’s wobble dissipated as she got closer to the kitchen. As she rounded the corner, she was Roger by the stove; her ears were greeted by the crackling of sausage frying in the pan. Avery leaned against the entryway as she purred, “The perfect hangover cure.” Roger turned to face her and replied with a smile, “Hey sleepy head.” Avery’s smile waned a little as she saw the clock read 12:15 and replied, “Wow I was out for quite a while.” Roger jokingly said, “Yeah, maybe an after-dinner bourbon while cuddling on the couch wasn’t the brightest idea.” Avery’s replied, “Yeah that explains the hangover.” Roger chuckled, “But last night was perfect. You certainly are feisty when you get drunk.” Avery’s asked, “We didn’t you know… do anything crazy last night did we?” Roger replied solemnly, “Well you did strip down to your underwear in front of me after I helped you back to your room.” Avery’s face went bright red as she closed her eyes and cringed. In that moment that memory sifted through her hangover haze as she replied, “I’m just now remembering it.” Roger replied with a chuckled, “Its alright you stumbled into bed without any problems. What were you worried we had sex last night? I don’t like having sex on the first date.” Avery reopened her eyes as she said with a chuckle, “I forgot you were a gentleman. Did you enjoy the strip tease at least?”

Roger flipped something in the pan as he replied with a smirk, “I would be lying if I said I didn’t. You have such elegant curves.” Avery swooned a little as she walked up and hugged Roger, “I’m glad you enjoyed your little sneak peek.” Roger said playfully, “Are you ready for a good hangover cure breakfast?” Avery answered with a zealous giggle, “I would be lying if I said I wasn’t.”
