The fattened bratty catboy [commissioned]

chapter 1 – introducing the brat himself

It’s not very often that an adult neko gets to be rich. In fact, it’s nearly impossible! When compared to regular humans, it’s almost palpable how they’re capable of success in nearly every industry. Anywhere you’d look you could see it, from tailoring to textiles, from food service to manufacturing. And it didn’t seem to matter what kind of job you would want if you’re any sort of kemonomimi (like a catboy or catgirl), as it always seems that humans would somehow do it better.

Thankfully, there are exceptions! A married neko couple managed to luck out with their brand of neko-branded napkins: Purrfect Pleasures. Their first product was simple enough, cloth napkins decorated with a pattern of cat paw prints. The first batch sold far better than either could have predicted, and even on back-order by the hundreds. Seeing the opportunity before them, they immediate tested out other items, and every one of them – ranging from lamp shades to rugs and even clothing – sold out with intense popularity.

The catboy and catgirl were in their early 20s when they started their venture, only to see some real cash flow so quickly. Within a short decade, along with providing more employment opportunities to many kemonomimi, Purrfect Pleasures expanded into corporate status and established locations around the globe. In one interview, the catgirl Molly had expressed humbled gratitude for the immense success that she and her husband got to experience. When the interviewer expressed a theory that one cause of their success is their employment opportunities to both regular humans and kemonomimi, Molly just blushed.

Now between them, their son was born into their new, and richer, lives. His attitude? A totally different story...

“MOM!! THIS IS NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR!!”

The 18-year-old’s hollering could be heard across the house, which is pretty impressive for a 4-story home, when you think about it. Oliver was fuming again, the food he wanted – nay, demanded – was not given to him exactly like he asked for. What’s so hard about giving him 3 cheeseburgers, a large fry, and a diet soda? These.. these burgers had ONIONS on them.

He did not ask for onions.

“MOM!!” he shouted again, his fuzzy ears flattened in annoyance, his cat’s tail jerking back and forth against the wall with impatience. Thump. Thump. Thump.

“I’m coming, dear, I’m coming!” his mother Molly called back, and heavy breaths follow as she climbs up the stairs to her son’s room on the 3rd floor. A long trip from the kitchen on the ground floor, yet his mother is always in a rush to tend to her boy’s needs. She pauses at the top of the stairs, taking only a moment to catch her breath and--

“MOM, HURRY UP!!” he hollers again, making her jump slightly.

With a sigh, she steals herself and approaches his door, already with a couple large bags of chips in hand. Stepping through the open doorway, she sets the bags down by her son’s side and offers a kind smile. As bratty as he was, she loved him no matter what and always found herself spoiling him.

“I brought you a snack to go with your lunch, dear,” she says with a chipper voice, before noticing him frowning in frustration. “What’s wrong, kitten?”

Oliver sulked, his voice even sounded pouty in his response.

“I didn’t want onions on my cheeseburger,” he took a bite anyway as he spoke, “I don’t like onions, they’re gross. I want new burgers.”

Seeing her son so upset worried her, even as she looked down and saw the open burger wrapper with all the onion slices having been clearly picked off. Reaching forward, she rubs a shoulder gently to soothe him, her words sympathetic.

“Aw, my poor kitten. I’ll have someone run back to Fatburger and get you more cheeseburgers, without onions this time, okay? And maybe I’ll treat this handsome boy to a milkshake, how does that sound?

The catboy didn’t respond, not that she expected him to. Really, all she wanted was for her son to be happy, healthy, and well-fed. It certainly didn’t hurt he had a little softness to him already, all that would mean to her is that she was doing her job right. Plus, a nice side-effect is that as long as he’s well fed, it would more time for her own hobbies.

Molly quietly leaves the room, ordering a member of the staff to repeat her son’s order, who gives a small bow and leaves. As she waits for his return, she rejoined her husband in the kitchen for the meal preparation for the evening. Oliver’s birthday had passed the previous weekend but, due to some unavoidable business they needed to attend to with the company, celebrations were missed.

And so they planned to make it up to him.
