Chapter 1 A new start

Toby impatiently tugged down on his already tight shirt with a huff. This was his first day of college, and all of his smart shirts had seemingly shrank in the wash. Typical, he thought. He should've known college laundry rooms were not reliable enough. Just as he was about to swap the shirt with a t-shirt, his alarm beeped at 8:20am. Crap. To avoid being any later than he already was, he quickly dropped the t-shirt, and anxiously pulled down the shirt once more, before darting out of his dorm to his class, earning a few laughs from the other students as they eyed his straining buttons.

Just as the bell was about to go to mark the start of the lecture, bursted into the class, "S-Sorry I'm late.. Err.. Mrs..—"

"Mrs Grace." She looked over the chubby boy and shook her head, "You must be the new student, Thomas, is it?"

The chubby boy laughed, awkwardly, "It's Toby.."

A remark came from the back of the class, "Should be called Tubby!" Followed by a series of giggles. That was Harry. Toby recognised him from High school, he was always there to point out Toby's increasing weight.

"Shut up, Harry." A girl shot a glare at the boy, and turned back to Andrew, and smiled. Andrew looked down, lightly, instinctively pulling his shirt down, hiding the pudge sticking out from the bottom.

The teacher looked around the class, "You can sit by Ronnie, the girl at the back. Ronnie, wave so he knows who you are." 

The girl, Ronnie, waved with a smile, moving her bag from the empty chair besides her, letting Toby sit down.

Toby paused, instantly becoming insecure. The girl, Ronnie was to put it plainly, beautiful, and way out of his league, with beautiful brown eyes, and a perky set of breasts to match. Not that he was looking. "T..Thank you." As he sat, he found that his stomach was uncomfortably pressing up against the desk, causing his face to turn a bright pink. Oh, he thought, just what he needed. And to add to insult, not only were his shirt buttons fighting for their lives, but he found his jeans were now digging into his hips, giving him an impressive set of love handles that poured from under his shirt. Luckily, though, nobody was behind him to see his frame sticking out from behind the small chair.

Ronnie pushed the desk slightly back, recognising Toby's discomfort, but ultimately adding to his embarrassment, as when the desk was moved, it caused the girth of his stomach to drop onto his lap, leaving the bottom of his belly naked, earning a few disgusted looks from his classmates. Toby sheepishly placed a hand over his stomach, covering up the straining buttons, and to cover up his embarrassment from the nice girl, Ronnie.
However, it appeared she already noticed the bounce, and giggled, lightly, continuing to look to the front of the class. To avoid further embarrassment, he sucked in.

Mrs Grace cleared her throat, "Okay! So, today's lesson is-" As those few words left her mouth, the door to the classroom again flew open, revealing some rugged boys.

Mrs Grace placed her petite hands on the bridge of her nose, "Connor, Marc! Again.. You're late, at this rate I'll have no choice but to boot you off my course!" Mrs Grace stated, impatiently tapping her foot at the teenagers, earning snickers from the rest of the class, who were used to their classmates antics. However, Ronnie appeared equally as irritated as the teacher, scowling at the pair of boys.

"Won't happen again, Mrs!" The boys said in illusion, high-fiving, and taking their seats next to Harry, who began smirking, and urging to Toby for the boys to look. As they did, more laughter erupted amongst the three, who then appeared to blow their cheeks up, mocking him. Toby then turned away, silently cursing his choice of clothing. He hadn't properly looked at the fit in his mirror, but he now regretted it. He needed to buy some new clothes.

As the teacher carried on with her teachings, Ronnie glanced at him, and smiled, "I'm Ronnie, but you already knew that."

Toby paused, becoming even more self-conscious of his flesh bulging out of his clothes, and even more so of his face. Toby was always blessed with having a rather thin face compared to his chubbier body, but as of that, his face has appeared to catch up with his weight, developing a small double chin and chubbier cheeks. "Umm.. I'm Toby, but.. You also already knew that." He said, quietly.

"Nice to meet you, Toby." She smiled, turning back to her notes.

With that, he also got his pen out, and began to write until the lesson had ended.

As the bell rang, Mrs Grace spoke up, "You're all due a project next semester, your partner will be the person you're sitting next to.. Excluding Harry, Marc and Connor, you'll all be split up." This earned a few grumbles and protests from the boys.

"So, looks like I'm your partner, we should study at yours." Ronnie spoke up, gathering her stuff and putting it in her bag, looking at the chubby boy.

"Umm.. Or we could go to yours.." He got up, thinking about his junk-filled dorm room, not wanting to embarrass himself even further than he already was.

She shook her head, "We can't. I have roommates, besides, there's no place to study." She glanced down at his stomach, studying each straining button. Toby appeared to notice this, and again instinctively sucked in, "Yeah! Mine is great then!" He smiled, stupidly cursing himself out at being too optimistic, as if this girl would willingly want to spend time with a guy like him, It's only for the project.

"Great! I'll see you after class, Toby!" She slinged her bag over her shoulders, waving to the chubby boy, and walking out to her next class, leaving him alone with his thoughts. 'I have a chance to maybe befriend this girl, and maybe even... More! God, what am I thinking? Course not. She's only being nice to spare my feelings after those boys ridiculed me..'
