Chapter 1- the final trial
Listen to this chapter - just press play:
"HHHYYYY AHHH" She shouted, bringing her sword down with enough force to dent the shield of her aggressor, and knock him on his back.
She lowered her sword to the face of her foe.
"Yield."
He raised his visor and met her gaze.
"I Yield. Good job, Jolene." As he got up and removed his helmet, revealing the gray hair of her mentor, Osmond.
"You are ready for the revealing ceremony tomorrow."
On the outside, she was as cool and cold as steel. Inside, she was giddy. Ever since she was a little girl, she had wanted to be a paladin. And now, having faced her final trial, she would finally be one.
After changing out of her plate armor, she noted how years of training and hard work had sculpted her to be champion of the just. Every part of her was built of rippling muscle. Abs, biceps, and thigh muscles meant she was ready for almost anything. Sure, on a more superficial person the lack of any bust or rear to speak of, but none of the gods or goddesses she was preparing herself to serve would care about that, so neither did she.
She went and visited her friends at the local tavern.
Carth was a prospective paladin of Heron, the god of the just like her. While he could be a bit of an ass, but he was a good person deep down.
Xayah was beautiful, no doubt about that. Jolene would joke that she had picked up all the curves that the gods had failed to given her. She was a prospect of the goddess of beauty and sexuality, Konya, and certainly had a good chance of being accepted by her, wearing a dress that showed off her curves as she was. Her unnaturally pink hair most likely also helped.
As they drank and gambled, they stopped when someone new entered the tavern.
"Poor Berenda. She was quite the looker last year." Xayah said, gazing over her drink.
"What happened to her?" Jolene asked.
"She was studying to be a paladin of Kronya, like me.She had tits that outmatched mine. But last year she took the prospective trial, and Hunta picked her instead."
"I thought the gods only picked those who matched their domains?"
"Most of the time, yes. But apparently she had an unknown glutton streak in her, so she was chosen by the goddess of hedonism and excess. And now, look at her."
Horrified, Jolene did. What she was looking at was someone who had ate themselves upwards of 400 pounds. Black curly hair framed an oval olive colored face that huffed and puffed from the exertion of carrying around an elephantine body. As she lumbered over to the bar, the barkeep already had a huge flagon of ale waiting for her, which she drank greedily.
"Always remember Jolene, don't take anything in life for granted."
"Oh let's leave the poor girl alone and return to gambling, please you two." Carth finally said. And they did. But the words Xayah had said would haunt her that night, and she prayed to anyone that would listen that she would be paired with the deity she wanted.
