As it should be series

Chapter 1

I arrived for my four month doctor’s appointment. I knew I was going to get scolded about my weight, so I just braced myself.

The nurse had me strip down to just my underpants and put on one of those hospital gown things. She had me step on the scale, my belly brushed up against the upright on the scale and she giggled, “Well Mr. Fox, you haven’t done too badly these past months!”

“Thanks” I muttered.

She left the room and I hoisted myself onto the exam table. Spreading my legs to let my belly sag down, I patted it making it jiggle, I thought, “Darn I should have had that fourth cheeseburger and another order of fries.”

Just then my doctor waddled in. Dr. Faber weighed an awe inspiring three hundred and ninety pounds, he had a sixty-eight inch waist and his butt was even bigger. You could feel the floor shaking when he walked around.

“Well Mr. Fox, what do you have to say for yourself. You gained six pounds since your last appointment!” Your BMI is only 39.8. “Didn’t you follow your diet?”

“No Doctor, I am sorry, but I didn’t, I had several deadlines to meet for my publishers and I just did not have time to eat right.” I replied.

“I saw your lovely wife last week, she gained over thirty pounds in the same time period. You really need to get back on your diet or your wife may end up weighing more than you!”

I cringed at that statement in today’s world weighing less than your wife was almost as bad as being unfaithful was in the past.

“I am sorry Dr. Faber, I will really stick to my diet these next two months, I promise, I have most of my work submitted so I can concentrate on eating right.”

“Mr. Fox, I am going to make some adjustments to your diet. We are going to have to go to six meals a day and I want at least one night meal in addition to that. I am raising your caloric intake to eight thousand calories a day, two hundred grams of fat and fifty percent more carbs. I want to you to get a wheel chair in the short run and if that helps with your weight, I might prescribe a scooter, we will see. Can you stick to this regime Mr. Fox?”

“Yes Doctor I can, I apologize for not doing my part these past months, I will re-double my efforts and get with the program these next two months!”

“Very good Mr. Fox, please make an appointment for two months from today with my girl up front and good day, Mr. Fox.” He got up, shook my hand and poked my belly, “Remember, let’s work on this now!”

I dressed, pulling on my sweats and t-shirt and waddled down to the adorable plumper at the reception area to make my next appointment. She giggled as she handed me my appointment card, “I hope to see a lot more of you next time Mr. Fox!”

I chuckled, “I hope so too, Janie!” and waddled out to my car. I felt like a child who has been spanked in front of his peers, with my tail between my legs. Feeling sorry for myself, I needed some comfort food. On the way home I stopped at Duncan Donuts and bought a latte and a dozen of my favorite cake donuts smothered in frosting and ate them all.

I got home and put the car in the garage. I waddled in to my awesome wife. “Ned dear, you are home! How did it go today honey bunch?” “Dr. Faber was pretty upset with me, Sally, he changed my diet and wants me to use a wheel chair, he even said you might end up weighing more than me!”

Sally smiled and came to me, she put her hand down inside my sweats and started to caress my belly making it jiggle and shake. She looked up at me, “Ned darling, I am not going to let that happen. I am going to take charge of your diet! I have been so busy with my own weight program, I neglected yours! I am so sorry, I was that selfish, not to help you too!” She was nearly in tears now.

“Hey Babe, you weren’t selfish, I did not keep to my diet as I should have, I was so busy with those deadlines! I replied.

“Ned, dear, your brilliant mind and all of your stories and books are why we live so well, I should have been helping you more instead of indulging my own needs! I am going to make sure that Dr. Faber will be very impressed with you on your next appointment.”

Two months later:

Sally and I waddled into Dr. Faber’s office. Janie the receptionist looked up and smiled, “Mr. and Mrs. Fox, right on time! Oh my, Mr. Fox you look fantastic, sir! Oh my gosh your belly is so much bigger! Good Job, Dr. Faber will be very, very pleased with your progress! Let me get an orderly with a wheel chair for you, we don’t want you getting any exercise now do we!”
