Chapter 1

(For reference of age: all characters are 18 or older.)

I had never really noticed that I was soft until a girl in my PE class poked me while I was trying to do sit-ups. You have a tummy. She said and giggled. After that I was overly aware of my soft tummy. I was aware of how it bunched up when I turned. I was aware of how much my hands sunk in. I was aware of how much bigger it looked after eating. I was aware of it jiggling when I exercised. I was obsessed.

Each meal was a chance for me to indulge my new found obsession. I ate till my jeans were unbearably tight then I would return to my room groaning. Of course this had consequences. But I did not notice them. Not at first.

“Your tummy has grown.”

This time she gave my belly a pat. It excited me to feel her hand sink into my soft middle. I noticed I started to have to suck in to button my jeans. They dug in a bit at all times. It was so hot to feel my little belly push over my waistband. To feel it grow as I ate way too much. It was my dirty little secret. They all thought I was just enjoying my meal but in reality I was getting off to my belly being filled with more food. I was determined to eat enough that no amount of exercise could cancel it out.

Today is the day I start my experiment. Yes I am soft but I want to know what ten or fifteen more pounds will feel like. I want to know how tight my jeans will be. I want to know how much harder exercise will be. I want to know how much more I will be able to eat. I want to know what that girl says when I get fatter. I want to know where the weight will go. And this is the perfect time. At 18 years old I have more autonomy.

Halloween week was a minefield of opportunities to binge while unsupervised. Between the Halloween parties and trick or treating I could barely button my jeans by November. And that girl, well she noticed. We got paired again in PE.

“Is your tummy making it hard?”

I was struggling a bit through my sit-ups. All those sweets and laying around had definitely affected my fitness. I tried to brush it off. But at lunch there was a lot more food in my bag than I remembered. I shrugged and ate it anyway. This became a regular occurrence. It happened so often that I started to think my backpack was just spawning food. I always ate it.
